📆 Calendar: IN-PERSON: From the 20th of February, you’ll have an hour class **every Thursday at 7:30 pm** for 8 weeks until the 10th of April. If you miss a class, you’ll still get the material and some explanations from me so then no excuse to keep practising your French every week!

📚 At this level, we try to speak mostly in French. Students at this level are not afraid to speak. They can follow pretty well French discussions at a slow/near-normal speed (even though they might miss some words) and know pretty much all the main tenses in French. This class is mostly **discussion-oriented** but still has a structure to give you more vocabulary and French expressions. I aim to immerse you for an hour in France and to teach you the way French people speak.

🤔 ***Not sure whether to choose the improver level or intermediate?***
If you feel confident speaking French, can comfortably engage in conversation without relying on English, and want to be challenged a bit more, I’d recommend the intermediate class. You’re still learning, making mistakes, and growing your vocabulary, but you can hold conversations and follow along.

The improvers class, however, is better suited for those who need a bit more support. We take things slower, use English as needed, and work on building both confidence and vocabulary.

That's the overall idea, but as you know, language learning is fluid and can vary from one student to another. That’s why we keep our classes small, with a maximum of 6 students, to ensure we can adjust to each student’s level and make sure everyone gets plenty of speaking time. The key to learning a language is by speaking it, so our main focus is simple: speak, speak, and speak.

🧑‍🏫  The class will be conducted by Szymon, from Nantes in France, a really experienced native French teacher.

🗣You'll be learning from a **native French Speaker**, so you’ll experience how French is truly spoken—not from an app or a textbook. A quick heads-up: you won’t be learning the typical phrases like “Parlez-vous français ?” or “Voulez-vous visiter le musée ?” because that’s not how we really talk. But don’t worry, I’ll explain all of that during the course and help you sound like a real French speaker!

The class is open for only **6 students** to keep the class small and cosy, but mostly unsure everyone can practice and ask questions. 

We'll meet in the famous French cosy café La Barantine in Stockbridge after it’s closed, which makes it feel more like hanging out than a formal lesson - indeed don't expect a "rigid" approach such as formal institutions. Students who come are super friendly and motivated—not just to learn French, but to enjoy some time with interesting and nice people. So my classes are all about **learning and having a good time together**.

Every class includes homework and different types of exercises to help you keep a good routine outside of the class. You'll get all the materials on a printed and online version, before/after each class, meaning you don't need to buy a book. 

A few days before the course starts, you’ll get all the information about your first class and a little revision pack. I recommend you to go through it. :)

EDINBURGH IMPROVERS/INTERMEDIATE: FRENCH COURSE

8-week course: designed to prepare beginners to travel to France and have real conversations with French people.

📆 Calendar: IN-PERSON: From the 5th of August, you’ll have an hour class **every Tuesday at 6 pm** for 8 weeks until the 23rd of September. If you miss a class, you’ll still get the material and some explanations from me so then no excuse to keep practising your French every week!

Level 0: Designed for new French learners or those constructing basic sentences, even after using tools like Duolingo for several months and learning French in school.

Over the 8 weeks, you’ll learn to:

- Introduce yourself
- Use essential verbs
- Ask questions
- Express likes and dislikes
- Make well-structured sentences
- Order food and drinks
- Make reservations

🤔 ***Unsure whether to choose Level 0 or Level 1?*** Here’s my advice: if you're deciding between these two levels, keep in mind that for Level 1, you should already feel comfortable forming questions and answers in French. You should know at least a few key verbs (perhaps 5–10), and while you might still make mistakes, especially with small connecting words, you can create sentences like:

- Quand est-ce que je peux aller en France ?
- Je ne vais pas en France parce que je travaille demain.
- Pourquoi est-ce que tu dois habiter à Paris ?
- Je ne peux pas faire du sport avec mes amis

Therefore, for Level 1, you shouldn’t be completely new to French (learning French in school 30 years ago doesn't really count haha). You should already have some confidence in speaking and be capable of forming basic sentences. On the other hand, if you’ve learned some French at school or through Duolingo but struggle to ask or answer simple questions correctly, I’d recommend starting with Level 0.
